Joanie B. Connell,PhD, is an organizational consultant who specializes in assessing and developing technical leaders; she consults with clients from startups to Fortune 100 companies in high tech, biotech, finance, legal, and many other industries. She earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Harvard College and a doctorate in psychology from the University of California Berkeley, with an emphasis in industrial-organizational psychology. Dr. Connell heads her own consulting firm, Flexible Work Solutions, that provides consulting services in leadership assessment, development, and retention, primarily of technical employees. She hosts a podcast called "Reinventing Nerds," on which she interviews technical leaders about their challenges and successes with developing people skills, has a blog called "Lessons from the Workplace," and is the author of the book Flying without a Helicopter: How to Prepare Young People for Work and Life (2015).
