Dr Katrina Skewes McFerran is Head of Creative Arts Therapy and Professor of Music Therapy in the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music at The University of Melbourne, Australia. She is a world leading expert in music listening, youth and wellbeing, and has conducted a number of large-scale research projects into the connection between music use and happiness, sadness and connection. She has authored 5 books, more than 100 journal articles and contributed 25 book chapters to edited texts. She is creator of the freely accessible, Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) called ‘How Music Can Change Your Life’ hosted by Coursera, and her TedX talk on Returning from the Darkside with Music has been viewed more 118,000 times.



Dr Denise Grocke AO, PhD, RMT, RGIMT, FAMI is Professor Emerita in Music Therapy at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music, University of Melbourne, where she founded the music therapy course in 1978. She retired from teaching in 2012, in 2016 was awarded the Officer in the Order of Australia (AO) for her pioneering work in music therapy as a practitioner, researcher, author and teacher. Dr Grocke is a Primary Trainer in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) and has published extensively through articles, book chapters and texts. Recent publications are as editor of Guided Imagery and Music: The Bonny Method and Beyond 2nd edition (2019), and co-editor of Guided Imagery & Music and Music Imagery Methods for Individuals and Groups (2015). She was co-author of the first edition of Receptive Methods in Music Therapy (2007).
